Should you be using AI to write your content?

Updated: Feb 8

Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to be the talk around town these days, which is probably why you’re here! As it becomes more accessible it is being incorporated into more everyday tasks, including content writing.

At first glance, this seems like a no-brainer. Writing all your social media posts and keeping up with a blog is a lot of work. Imagine how much time you could save if you could just leave it up to AI. But before making the dive into having AI-written content it’s important to weigh the pros and cons. Along with the good comes the bad!

PROS OF AI-WRITTEN CONTENT

1. You’re saving time and/or money

Let’s face it, writing content is no small task. The current solutions are for you to take the time out of your busy schedule to do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you. AI programs can deliver entire pieces of content within minutes with subscriptions that are cheaper than outsourcing to a human.

2. It can generate ideas

Sometimes the hardest part of writing content is to actually come up with the ideas of what to write. With AI it can be as simple as providing the link to your website and in return receiving a list of generated content ideas for you.

3. It can maintain your SEO

Believe it or not, AI has the ability to write your SEO for you. This can be very handy for entrepreneurs who don’t have the time to learn and understand how to do it on their own.

CONS OF AI-WRITTEN CONTENT

1. It’s not perfect

Although AI has come a long way, it still requires a human to quality control the process. It’s not as simple as the content is written for you and you can immediately publish that work. Content tools still occasionally make grammatical, punctuation or sentence structure mistakes. You will still need to quality-check and proofread the content.

2. What about your personality?

YOU are what makes your business stand out from the rest. People follow you, read your content and support your business because they are invested in you and your story. AI hasn’t lived your experiences, gained your perspective or used your products. AI can write you facts and put together information that you find on the internet, but it can’t build your brand identity to represent who you are and what you’re about.

3. It will impact your content performance!

Google has guidelines against automatically generated content and AI goes against them which causes Google to recognize Al-generated content as spam. That will seriously impact the performance of the content you are publishing.

If you ask us, we’re team humans. We value our authenticity too much and the time saved wouldn’t be worth the impact on our content performance. This blog was not written by AI nor will any of our other content. But that doesn’t mean we won’t change our minds as AI programs start developing more. If you do choose the route of AI here is our advice - use it as a support tool rather than a replacement for your humans!
